23. FACTUAL CONDITIONALS - possible result.
If + S + V(past) , S + would/could/might + verb word
If we found her address , we would/could/might write her a letter
S + would/could/might + verb word , if + S + V(past)
We would/could/might write her a letter, if we found her address
Don't use: would + verb word after if.
24. FACTUAL CONDITIONALS - probable change in past result
If + S + had + p.p. , S + would/ could/ might + have + p.p.
If we had found her address, we would have written her a letter
S + would/ could/ might + have + p.p. ,if + S + had + p.p.
We would have written her a letter,if we had found her address.
He would have come ,if he had had a car.
Don't use: "would have" after if. Don't forget that { had + p.p.(from have) = had had }
25. UNREAL (CONTRARY-TO-FACT) CONDITIONALS - impossible result. "WERE"
"Were" is used here rather then "was"
If + S + were ...
If the party were on Friday, we could go.
If I were you, I didn't it.
Don't use: "was" (even if subject is singular)
26. UNREAL (CONTRARY-TO-FACT) CONDITIONALS - change in conditions.
S + V + unless + S + V
Luisa won't return unless she gets a scholarship.
Avoid deleting "unless", the subject or the verb from the clause
after "unless".
27. Wishes - desires for past events.
S +WISH(present)+that + S + had/could had/would had
I wish that you had called yesterday.
I wish that you could had called yesterday.
I wish [now] that you would had called yesterday.
28. Wishes - desires for present and future events.
S +WISH(present)+that + S + could/would + verb word
I wish that you could call tomorrow.
I wish [now] that you would call tomorrow.
Don't use: "will" instead of "would" or "could".
29. Contrary-to-fact wishes - repeating events (in present & future).
S +WISH(present)+that + S + V(past)
I wish that you called every day.
Don't use this pattern for desires in the past.
