95. Specific similarity - "as" + quality adjective + "as".

Comparison of a specific characteristic: A is as adjective(quality) as B.

John is as high as Jack.

A fox is not as big as a wolf.

 Quality adjectives are such as: big, large, smal, little, heavy, light, hard, soft, expensive, cheap, broad, narrow, high, low, old, young, hot, cold. 

Don't use "to", "than", or "like" instead of "as"; Don't use a quality noun instead of a quality adjective.

 

96. General difference - "different from" and "different".

"different from" is used between two nouns compared, and "different" is used after the two nouns or after a plural noun.

 A is different from B.

This hat is different from that one.

 

A and B are different.

This hat and that one are different.

 noun(plural) are different.

These hats are different.

Don't use "to" and "than" instead of "from"; Don't use "different" between the two nouns compared.

 

97. General difference - "to differ from".

"Differ" is verb and must change forms to agree with the subject.

 A is different from B.

This hat is different from that one.

 A DIFFER(finite form) from B.

This hat differs from that one.

A she-sparrow didn't differ from a he-sparrow during the winter.

  Don't use forms of BE with "differ"; Don't use "to","of", or "than" with "differ" and "different".

 

98. Comparative estimates - multiple numbers.

The following are examples of multiple numbers: four times, three times, six times. 

multiple + as + many/much + as

 Fresh fruit costs twice as much as canned fruit.

He has half as many as he need.

  Don't use "so" instead of "as" after a multiple; Don't use "more than" instead of "as many as" or "as much as"; Don't use a multiple after "as much/many";
