Conjunctions
Conjunctions a phrases that clarify relationships between clauses. "Conjoin" means "to join together". CORRELATIVE CONJUNCTIONS are pairs that are used together. They often express inclusion or exclusion. Correlative conjunctions must be followed by the same grammatical structures; in other words, you must use parallel structures after correlative conjunctions.
120. Correlative conjunctions - inclusive "both ... and"

both A and B
Both Dr. Jones and Miss Smith spoke.
The lecture was both interesting and instructive.
Don't use "as well as" instead of "and" with "both". Don't use "both ... and" with more than two nouns or adjectives.
121. Correlative conjunctions - inclusive "(both .. and) .. as well as"
They must be used in sequence to include 2 or 3 structures (nouns, adjectives, verbs, adverbs)
a) A as well as B
He enjoys playing football as well as basketball.
b) both A and B as well as C
Both John and Jack as well as Mary will go.
He both read and write as well as understand Japanese.
Don't use "as well" instead of "as well as".
122. Correlative conjunctions - inclusive "not only ... but also"
They are used together to include 2 structures (two nouns, adjectives, verbs, adverbs)
not only A but also B
She is not only beautiful but also clever.
He plays not only guitar but also violin.
Don't use "only not" instead of "not only". Don't omit "also". Always write "also" just after "but", not after the second introduced structure.
123. Correlative conjunctions - exclusives "not ... but"
They are used together to exclude the structure that follows "not" (nouns, adjective, verb, adverb) and include the structure that follows "but".
not A but B
He is not clever but very patient.
It is not money but principle that makes me angry.
You should not listen their words but observe their deeds.
Don't use "only" instead of "but".
124. Affirmative agreement - "so", "too", and "also".
"So" is used before an auxiliary vers and "too" and "also" are used after auxiliary verbs.
My wife will talk to him, and so will I
My wife has talked to him, and so has I
My wife talked to him, and so did I
My wife was talking to him, and so was I
My wife will talk ,to him and I will too
My wife has talked ,to him and I has too
My wife talked ,to him and I did too
Don't use "also" instead of "so".
